Hello I'm Rufus! 

Don't you just love my new photos! I am a handsome Papillon mix and I'm as scrappy as they come. I have come a long way since being with my foster mom, I now make friends with everyone I meet, including older children. I love playing with my stuffed animals and tennis balls, and I also love finding hidden places in the house for a nap. I'll let you know when I need to go outside, and with a proper intro, I get along well with female dogs. I'm also a great doggy doorbell!  If you're looking for an A-1 companion, I'm your guy! 

 

Pup date 2-3-2018

I am getting more socialized and have now figured out that I can live with other pups and play. I am still a bit shy and I need time to do my own investigating, on my terms. When I am properly introduced to other pups, I get along just grand. 

I love romping in the back yard, even in the freezing cold! I am completely potty trained and will go to the door when I have to go outside to do my business.

I love toys and play a great game of fetch, I will be your best friend if you have toys and balls.

Since training has been on my terms, I need a home who will take it slow so I can learn what is expected in my new forever home. I don't think younger children are in my future because I can get a little snarly at times.

I am a great pup and appreciate love and respect.

 

They call me is Rufus and they think I'm a Papillon mix. When I first came to A Promise of Love, I was really frighthened of people, and some dogs, but in the last few months I have really come out of my shell. With a slow and proper introduction, I become friends with children over 7, and both smaller and bigger dogs. My best buddy over the last few months was a pit bull, and she taught me many things, like how to scratch on the door to go outside to go potty! I love to cuddle with people and I also move my bed from room to room as the mood strikes. I also love to play with toys and bones and chase a ball throughout the house. I'm a great doorbell too! If you decide to adopt me I promise to keep you great company!

 

Pupdate 6-6-2017

This is Rufus. He's a Papillon mix who came to us from a neglect situation. Despite this, Sir Rufus has an incredible outgoing personality and a zest for the outdoors. Although he is five years old, he loves to run and is a high energy pup who will need a fenced in yard. He is also a great companion indoors, where you may catch him napping in his crate, on his favorite pillow, or underneath a table. When he gets bored of a location, he will drag his bed with him to wherever his imagination takes him. He also loves stuffed toys, and carries his beloved Gumby with him throughout the house. He gets along with other dogs with a proper introduction, with older kids (12+), but unknown around cats. He is very vocal when anyone new comes to the house, but after they sit down and allow him to approach, he is quite friendly. He needs much more time to acquaint himself with men.

Owner surrender, came from a HS in north central Wisconsin.

More to follow after Rufus settles in and decompresses.

HS observations:

Rufus does not like small children, male dogs, thunderstorms or fire crackers. He likes  going on walks but needs to learn leash manners. Can be a bit of a resource guarder with his food bowl. Loves toys and cuddling. Will need to be placed in a home with no other dogs or children. He will be neutered and microchipped on May 17th, Rufus visited our vet today and was updated on all vaccinations including Bordatella. Also given a steroid injection because of past flea infestation with hair loss on his lower back.

Rufus will need a fenced yard.
