Learn more about the West Highland White Terrier Westie.
9-22-2020 Archie requires a 6 foot fenced yard. He still would like to explore the great outdoors and will dart out any door of the house. Archie is now sporting a full coat of hair after weeks of medicinal bathing. He is on a strict diet of Fromm's Highlander Beef kibble and 1/2 boiled egg twice daily. We believe he is highly allergic to chicken products. Archie has come out of his shell, he absolutely loves all people including older children. He loves his walks and is perfectly leash trained. Be patient with him on walks, he loves to explore all the smells others have left behind. There is no distance between Archie and squirrels, he will scream a high pitched bark and the chase is on. Archie is potty trained now, but if we have to leave for more than 3 hours, we do use a belly band. He is still on Apoquel for his itching and it tends to make him drink more water and potty a lot. Archie is looking for a home where someone is home with him most of the time. He loves to cuddle and sleeps in the big bed with his people. When he isn't on your lap or next to you snoozing, his favorite spot is being perched next to a window and watching all that is happening on the outside. Archie is UTD on all vaccinations, microchipped and is neutered. Archie just had his dental also so he is ready to go. He is on HW meds monthly and is HW-. His ear infections have completely cleared up, we do clean his ears often to keep infections at bay. Intake 8/06/2020 Archie was found as a stray in Fulton, Kentucky. He was suffering from severe allergies that caused a tremendous loss of hair on the sides of his body, legs, feet and face. He was taken to a Veterinarian immediately upon being found. Several skin scrapings were taken and it was determined he has a severe skin allergy. He was given an oatmeal bath several times before arriving in Wisconsin. Archie visited our personal vet the day after he arrived. He was found to have infections in both ears and tapeworms. Archie was put on a dose of Dontral, ear drops, Apoquel and an antibiotic for the infection in his skin. He will revisit our vet in 4 weeks. Archie is a loving pup that brought no baggage with him. He loves other pups, plays gently with them and strangers do not exist in his life. He eventually will make the perfect addition to a loving family. Because of Archie's current condition, he will not be available for adoption until his allergies clear up and the ear infections are long gone. As of arrival, he eats a raw diet of duck and sweet potatoes. We don't know how long he will need this raw diet, but time will tell.
